DLR Deutsche Gesellschaft für Luft- und Raumfahrt, Oberpfaffenhofen

The control centre for the new European satellite navigation system - Galileo - is currently being constructed on the premises of the German Society for Aeronautics and Astronautics in  Oberpfaffenhofen. The building was designed by Axel Schultes architects, with large exposed concrete surfaces on three sides and on the roofing system and surrounding walls. These surfaces required rework using concrete embellishments and touch-ups, despite their generally good quality of execution, as the aesthetic requirements were high. Hydrophobing and comprehensive lasuring give added protection to the facade, preventing partial touch-ups from becoming apparent in rainy weather.
